initiative 8: Humanitarian WASH ADVOCACY and funding
supporting the construction and facilitation of awash advocacy community
The Humanitarian WASH sector faces significant challenges, including underfunding and deprioritization compared to other major sectors. Despite its critical importance, it often remains overshadowed, hindering its ability to address urgent needs effectively.
The Humanitarian Wash Advocacy and Funding initiative aims to tackle these challenges head-on by developing a consultative and integrated approach to establish an inclusive global advocacy strategy for the Humanitarian WASH sector. By identifying gaps, priorities, and trends at various levels – global, regional, national, and local – we will equip local and national WASH partners and coordination platforms to become more effective advocates for the cause.
Key Objectives:
Expected Impact:
Join Us in Making a Difference: Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and ensure that the Humanitarian WASH sector receives the support and recognition it needs to save lives and build resilient communities.
- Establishing a Comprehensive Advocacy Strategy: We will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including the Core Technical Agency (CTA) and the WASH Advocacy Alliance (WAA), to develop a robust advocacy strategy. This strategy will encompass marketing and communication campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the critical issues facing the Humanitarian WASH sector.
- Addressing Underfunding: The Humanitarian WASH sector is currently underfunded and deprioritized compared to other sectors. Our initiative seeks to change this status quo by advocating at the global level for increased financial resources for Humanitarian WASH projects. We will produce recommendations to maximize the effectiveness and coverage of existing funds and financial mechanisms. Additionally, we will explore the feasibility of launching an additional Humanitarian WASH fund, open to both conventional and non-conventional donors, including the private sector and private foundations.
Expected Impact:
- Increased Visibility: By advocating for the Humanitarian WASH sector on global and national agendas, we aim to elevate its visibility and ensure it receives the attention it deserves in humanitarian responses.
- Enhanced Funding: Through targeted advocacy efforts and the establishment of new funding mechanisms, we aspire to secure greater financial resources for Humanitarian WASH projects, ultimately improving their effectiveness and reach.
Join Us in Making a Difference: Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and ensure that the Humanitarian WASH sector receives the support and recognition it needs to save lives and build resilient communities.
